Gauntlet's Guide to Megaman Cosplay

As the multitude of Megaman pages suggest, there are allot of Megaman fans. Which is good. Hell, I'm one of them and the community wouldn't be too much fun without anyone else. And sometimes these fans cosplay. With varying degrees of success.

However, what kinda makes me mad is the community's response to coslayers. Inevitably, unless it's someone you know, they are ridiculed. In forums, on pages (but mostly on forums) by pretty much everybody. And, while critiquing a costume is fair game, almost everyone says comments along the lines of "he's too fat! He ought to play Double! Ha hah." Oh, how mighty we think we are.

I think what makes me angry about this is not the blind cruelty to people who may very well frequent the forums you so carelessly post on, but rather the hypocrisy of it all. People just loooooove to point fingers and say jabs like "he's too ugly to be a good Megaman!", but I have a pretty good hunch you're no model yourself!

Also, the sheer lack of loyalty is disturbing. Chances are, these people go to the forums if they're so into Megaman, they may have pages like you do. Yet much of the community is quick to jump at their peers. Why? Because they do something visible in a place that is socially acceptable to dress up in wacky costumes? Come on, people!

I think the community as a whole should stick together. Some people want to dress up as characters at a convention? All right. Many of YOU devote much time and energy to create websites some of them (like this one) in obsessive detail. If someone wants to dress up as Megaman characters all day? Okay, that's a little weird. Point is - show a little bit of respect to you're fellow fans.

I'm Gauntlet and this has been Gauntlet's guides.
